Decorating Feng Shui

Plants & Flowers

Healthy flowers in full bloom are excellent for attracting good chi. Having fresh flowers in the house everyday spells good feng shui for the household. Because dead or wilting flowers attracts bad chi, make sure you change the flowers in the room with fresh ones regularly. Dying flowers represent bad fortune and illness. Artificial flowers are great alternatives.

The Peony is regarded as the most supreme of all flowers. They are excellent enhancers for marriage and love luck. Display a bunch of Peony flower in the southwestern sector of your room. If you have difficulty finding Peony flowers, paintings will work as well too.
Stand alone square pillars in the house are extremely inauspicious. Its sharp edges create lots of killing Chi and is extremely harmful if its pointed towards the main door. The best way to neutralize the effect of square pillars is to grow a climbing plant on it. Alternative you can plant any other potted plants to make the pillar as inconspicuous as possible.

Works of Art and feng shui

Fuk, Luk and Sau are three very popular deities in Chinese culture. They represent wealth, affluence and health. The Chinese believe that by place the figurines of these three deities in the house will attract the good fortune that they represent. These figurines must always be placed in a position of honor and must be place higher than any tables in the room.

The guardian lions, are also commonly used by the Chinese for protection against evil forces. They usually come in a pair and are best placed at the entrance, outside of the house. They are believed to protect the home from harmful influences.

As like everything else in feng shui, there is Yin art and there is Yang art. Place the art pieces accordingly. For example, the living room is a Yang area of the house where there is lost of activity and energy flow. Compliment this by placing Yang art pieces in this area, such as a painting of festivity or a carnival. The bedroom on the other hand is a Yin area of the house that promotes peace and rest. Place yin feature works of arts to compliment the energy of the room.

Lighting for feng shui

Another quick and easy way to create good feng shui is to have the right lighting. Lights symbolize the fire element, thus is excellent for activating the southern, southeastern, eastern and northeastern sectors. Light, is very Yang, and is therefore good for balancing out Yin areas and attracting good Chi flows.

The shape of lamps used is also very important. Choose lamps that have gentle curves and have balanced shape and design. Avoid high-tech lampshades with quirk design, sharp curves and pointed edges. Such designs symbolizes imbalance and the sharp edges emit killing chi. There are some table lamps that curve towards the table with a heavy lampshade. It replicated the hammer design and thus is very inauspicious

In selecting the color of the lamps it is best to  choose soft pleasing colors to create an environment of peace and tranquility.

Avoid odd shaped furniture such as three legged tables. Chairs and sofas should have a high strong back to provide good support. When selecting the colors for your furniture, select based on the elements of the sector of the room. For example it would be inauspicious to place a huge red sofa in the north sector as the sector is governed by water and fire clashes with water.
